Stand-Alone Well Cars entered service in the early 1990s as
larger and heavier containers came into use. With a truck at
each end, they have a larger carrying capacity and are easier
to maintain than the articulated cars. Some owners run them
connected with drawbars as three, four or five "unit cars."
Stand-alone cars are now being used with heavy shipments such
as the movement of garbage and some foreign shipments moving
in 20' containers. |

on the car using the four corner castings. By the late 1980s,
longer 45 and 48' containers were in service, and the design
was again reworked to accommodate these heavier loads in the
middle wells. The latest version (which is the prototype for
this kit) has additional reinforcements and IBCs to carry everything
from a pair of 20' container up to a single 48' container in
any of the wells. These ready-to-run models feature authentically
painted die-cast metal bodies for maximum weight and performance.
Cars come equipped with free-rolling trucks and standard N Scale
couplers.

This kit will be the star of your intermodal terminal! The Translift
Crane is a dual-purpose machine used by many railroads that
can lift trailers or containers. It's wide enough to straddle
two rows of trailers or containers parked side by side, making
short work of loading or unloading. Many parts of the model
are positionable to simulate a working crane. Magnets are included
to hold containers with metal sheet inserts securely without
gluing. Decals and complete instructions are included. Measures
4 X 3-1/8 X 3".
