Limited edition models of unique prototypes
Western Maryland - "Chessie"
Built in September of 1963 by Bethlehem
Steel and labeled corrosion test car this is the
only 100 ton quad hopper owned by Western Maryland.
"As far as I know the WM was doing corrosion
test for its own interest. However since the rotary
dumper at Port Covington (Baltimore) could only handle
up to 70 ton cars the quad’s service was limited.
Thus it was often seen in service to the mines around
Bayard, WV and then taken up to the power plant (Vepco
Power) since they could handle the big car." G
