Rio Grande's Great Steel Fleet
16000 & 19000 series
The Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad Company owned
2795 of these
100 ton 12-panel quad hoppers. The Rio Grande started taking
delivery of the
16000 series from Bethlehem Car Works in 1964. These cars
are still
in active use today.
Model Features:
*12 all new numbers from the 1975 delivery of 355 cars
*6 cars from the 16000 series and 6 cars from the 19000
series

Sold Out
The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad purchased
the Southern Pacific Railroad in
1988 and merged the two roads to create Southern Pacific lines.
D&RGW car
12663 emerged from Southern Pacific's Pine Bluff Arkansas
shop repainted
with D&RGW reporting marks and SP speed lettering in November
of 1995.
Car 12663 is the only quad hopper to receive this paint scheme.

Re-painted by Union Pacific, D&RGW car
12272 is very unique. D&RGW 12272 displays "The Action
Road" and "Mainline Through The Rockies" heralds. This is
the only quad hopper to receive both historical heralds.
