A note on General Service
Drop-Bottom Gondolas
Luckily, as with box cars, their are well over
20 variations of the GS gon.
Micro-Trains is
doing a 50 ton GS gon. They advertise a 40 footer
but it appears to be the 41 foot USRA design
like Red Caboose did in HO.
Trainworx will
be doing the more modern 70 ton 46 footer. Trainworx
chose
the
46 footer since it was used during the steam
to diesel transition era and was still in use
during the time of the mega mergers of the 80's.
The
Grande never had any gons with the USRA design
but they had 1700 of the 46 footers. There are
other roads that never had 50 toners but did
have the 70s. |
