This 39’ single dome tank car is painted red with white herald and lettering.  It was built in April 1916 by American Car & Foundry, serviced in April 1956, and runs on Bettendorf trucks.  In 1929, Pennsylvania purchased a group of 50 tankers and moved them into company serviced. A class TM8, this tanker holds 8,000 gallons.

Kanotex Refining Company, a regional oil refinery and petroleum products distributor, began operation in Caney, Kansas in 1909.  The Kan-O-Tex name referred to Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas as the states in which the
company originally marketed its products.  This 39’ Single Dome Tank Car is the first release in the Oil Tank Car Series.  It is painted black with white lettering and runs on black Arch Bar Trucks.  Kanotex #503 is a Class 2
tank car from series 501-506 and was built in 1915 with a capacity weight of 80,000lbs.

These 89’ COFC flat cars are painted yellow with white road number in black box.  Flat cars such as these are used primarily for the transportation of containers, vehicles, and equipment from port-to-base or base-tobase
in the United States.  These cars were given the DODX reporting marks indicating they fall under the authority of the Department of Defense and are marked for use by the United States Marine Corps.

This 50’ Class FE-22 auto box car with double side doors and end door is painted brown with white‘circle-cross’ herald and large Cooper Black ‘Santa Fe’ font.  The ‘Ship and Travel all the way’ slogan is on both sides. It was built in February 1941 at the Topeka Shops, serviced at the West Wichita Shops in June 1961, and runs on black Dalman trucks.  This car could be seen on the rails ‘as it is’ between 1961 and the mid-1970s.

This 60’ excess height box car with waffle sides and double plug doors is painted black with white lettering and white excess height end masks with black lettering.  It was built in December 1978 by Berwick Forge and fabricating and runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks.  Most excess height cars were assigned for appliance service however, this 24-car fleet was assigned to automotive parts service.  The “waffle” pattern on the sides indicates internal belt rails allowing for a damage free delivery. The design of the excess height car came about in answer to the need to accommodate use of automated loading devices such as forklifts and the stacking of tall appliance crates in the cars.  This enabled maximum use of space with fewer cars needed for a shipment.
