box car with plug doors is painted ATSF Indian
Red with black
ends and orange doors. Displaying the “SHOCK
CONTROL” slogan with the large “Santa
Fe Circle/Cross” logo in white,
it runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks.
This car is one of 200 “Shoc k Control/A
Smoother Ride” insulated
RBL refrigerator cars built in the Santa Fe
shops in January of
1960. This class RR-64 car was serviced at
Santa Fe’s Topeka Shops in March of 1973. The
orange door indicates
this car is “DF Loader”, “Damage
Free” equipped. |

This
40’ standard box car with single Superior
door and no roofwalk is painted
Armour yellow with a lower white stripe. The
lettering, including the large “ARA” herald
and “Serving Arcade Industry” slogan,
is black and white. It was built in the late
1930s, and rebuilt in June 1956. It runs on black Bettendorf
trucks.
It was repainted in July 1970 when it became
a secondhand purchase
for the ARA, then numbered into the 501-509 series. The
ARA included 22 rolling stock in the 1973
Official Railway and Equipment Registry that were
all but gone by 1978. |

This
box car red 50’ composite gondola with
drop ends, and fishbelly sides has large white ‘ROCK
ISLAND” lettering
and runs on black Bettendorf trucks. Rock
Island’s 400 ‘War Emergency’ gondolas
were built by Pressed Steel Car Company in November
of 1943. When new, #1176 received this box car red paint
and white stenciling. Equipped with 70-ton
Bettendorf style
trucks, the cars were of 140,000-pound capacity
and 1673
cubic feet. The Rock Island later converted
these cars to adapt in TOFC service, tie loading
and steel service.

BN green two-bay ACF Center Flow® covered
hopper with round hatches has
large white ‘Burlington Northern” lettering,
white BN logo and white lettering,
and runs on black Barber® roller
bearing trucks. One of 50 two-bay covered hoppers
built by ACF in the
mid-1970s, this car was originally numbered into
the NP series 75000-75099. The 100-car series was
later numbered for the Burlington Northern into
series 435700-435799. Within this group, some
were painted gray
with black lettering and some were painted green
with white lettering. The hoppers
were used for hauling
cement through Portland, OR, silica sand out of
the Ottawa, IL, area and bentonite
clay from Wyoming for use in drilling oil wells. |

were delivered in January. The “Canadian
Pacific” plain
block road name was supplanted by the script paint
scheme in 1959. By July of 1956, a twenty
year time span,
the series had lost only 14 cars. Cars
were in service
through the 1970s. |

built its first all-steel hoppers. These
were designated
HT-5B and numbered into the larger series #188000-189999. In
March of 1959, 250 of these hoppers
were serviced and repainted into CB&Q’s
new “Chinese
Red” paint.

Cars from series 819600-819799 were built

Texas, in 1984. They
were equipped with end-of-car cushioning and retained
their original C&EI series numbers
and logo.

and on February 18, 1920, the SP&S entered into an equipment trust with USRA
and received the 300 “modern” steel
underframe box cars. These
were assigned to the 10000-10299 series. |
