The January, February & March 2005 Micro-Trains releases
were severely limited and most ran out
at M-TL in the first 10 days of the month.
To our knowledge all the large dealers were allocated product
less than ordered. If this happens again we may
be forced to allocate to our reservations based on timing
of the reserve and if the customer is requesting
multple copies of the item. In January some people ordered
as many as 5 sets of the military cars. |

This box car red 40’ Hy-Cube has white “Rio
Grande-the Action Road” speed lettering and runs on
black roller bearing trucks. Part of a small 4 car order,
sub-group 67427-67430, these 40-foot Hy-Cubes were built at
Pullman-Standard’s Bessemer Plant in November 1967,
as lot 9255A; they were an addition to an earlier CB&Q
order and were placed into Whirlpool Company service. Assigned
to the NYC at Evansville, IN, they ride on a Hydroframe-20
cushion underframe equipped with Evans DF-2 belt rails and
rated at the full 4900 cu. ft. capacity, reflecting the lack
of interior load dividers.

This 50’ flat car with fishbelly sides and
side mount brake wheel is painted CP “Action Red”
with white lettering and runs on black Bettendorf trucks.
Built date 1950 and serviced in November 1976 at Winnipeg’s
Weston Shops (WW). This is one of 44 pulp wood cars fitted
with steel stakes. It includes stakes and is loaded with 3
new “Peeler” log loads, “A”, “B”
& ”C”.

This 40’ standard box car with plug door is car #28
of a 50-car series representing each of the 50 states in the
union. It bears the Mockingbird and Iris flower, Tennessee’s
official state bird and flower. The flag of the state of Tennessee
is in the background. The road number 1796 represents the
year the ‘Volunteer State’ was admitted into the
union.

This 50’ standard box car with plug door is painted
C&O blue with an aluminum roof and C&O yellow door
and runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks. B&O
478555 is part of an interrupted number series 478500-478641
& 478650-478699 classed as M-78. Built from Pullman kits
by the Maryland Construction Co., Du Bois, PA (a subsidiary
of the B&O) in 1963, however, the car is stenciled “NEW
1-64”. Both series groups are fitted with six SL-2 partial
belts.

5, 40’-6” IL express box cars from PSCMCO. Numbered
1-5 and equipped with Ajax power hand brakes, each car carried
a different slogan and ran with their passenger service to
and from Chicago through Illinois and Indiana: “Route
of the Dixie Limited,” “Route of the Dixie Flyers,”
“Route of the Dixie Flagler,” “Chicago St.
Louis Southwest,” & “Chicago Evansville Southeast.”

This
50’ steel side, 15 panel gondola with fixed ends is
painted box car red with white lettering, large white “FRISCO”
letters and runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks.
Built as class GBR, 895 of these 100-ton capacity PS-5 cars
are equipped to wear covers and were put into steel service.
Rebuilding in 1973 included welding the ends closed, replacing
side panels and repainting with this “FRISCO”
billboard scheme. These cars survived the merger with Burlington
Northern in 1980, and several were still in service well into
the 1980s. |

This 40’ double-sheathed wood reefer with
vertical brake wheel is painted box car red with reefer
yellow sides, colorful red, white & black logo, black
lettering and runs on black Bettendorf trucks. The reefer
was the result of inventive minds such as Gustavus Swift
in the late 1800s. Gustavus Swift began as a butcher’s
apprentice and rose to become one of the country’s
most prominent meat barons. When the reefers were introduced
to the meat packing industry, they were instantly welcomed
as a profitable alternative to shipping live animals in
stock cars.

This 40’ standard box car with plug door is painted
oxide red with large white “NH” logo and runs
on black Bettendorf trucks. Built in July of 1953 by Pacific
Car & Foundry, as one of a 100 car fleet that comprised
New Haven’s last order for 40’ box cars, some
of these cars were refurbished in the Maybrook Car Shops in
1968. They were repainted an oxide red with the simplified
“Alpert scheme” giving them an extended life well
into the Conrail era. The large “White N over H”
herald was painted just to the right of the door at the insistence
of the I.C.C. to avoid covering the dimensional data with
the open door.
