Prototype Information — |
The “Super Chief” was one of the named passenger
trains of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
It was the only all Pullman train to operate on
the Santa Fe main line between Chicago and Los Angeles
and operated typically with 12 cars.
The train was usually pulled by an F7 A-B-B-A combination
with our models time period being 1956 to 1958.
We selected the most popular time period of 1956 –
1958 when this train was operated and
promoted and advertised by the AT&SF RR as its
premier all Pullman train between Chicago
and Los Angeles.
In January 1958, the all coach “El Capitan”
and the “Super Chief” were consolidated
but during the high traffic periods (Christmas and
summer months), the “Super Chief” ran
separate from the “El Capitan”.
You will now have the opportunity to operate the “Super
Chief” and also the “El Capitan”
with all the correct cars. You can even combine
the two trains and run as one just like the Santa
Fe did in real life. The train can also be operated
with 5 locomotives as F7A-A-B-B-A.
Wig-Wag
Note: Moving to Albuquerque in July
1969, George was able to get to the depot on Sundays
once he got a driving permit. At the depot he was
able to photograph many combined Super-El Cap's
arriving westbound with an A-B-A-B-B-B consist.
The lead B-unit would be removed before the train
continued west. Eastbound the train would arrive
A-A-B-B-B and the additional B-unit would be added
to cross Glorieta and Raton Passes.
An additional 4 car set is available
to add to this set so the entire 12 car train can
be modeled.

About
the Super Chief car set "B"
The
second Super Chief Set contains the more business and
haulage oriented cars, with a baggage and an RPO (Rail
Post Office) car, accompanied by a lounge car and an
ACF 10-6 Sleeper car. The Baggage and RPO cars are visually
distinctive from their passenger oriented bretheren
due to their shorter length as well as the circular
air vents (for temperature regulation in the Southwestern
heat). Passenger cars lacked these vents due to their
enclosed air conditioning and heating systems. |

Stock Checks:
Inventory is a fluid commodity. It changes by the
hour (sometimes by the minute). To retain our pricing structure
we maintain stock levels designed to turnover 6 times each
year. We cannot guarantee stock status till we have an order
in hand. All product is subject to prior sale. If we confirm
that we have it, and, while we are waiting for the order
it sells, you would be upset that we did not hold it.
We used to hold items but learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson.
When we held items for customers’ orders, the order
never materialized 80%+ of the time. We lost out on
the orders placed while the item was on hold. Also
we wasted staff time that could have been used to pull actual
orders.
Since we are well known for finding older stock the fact
that it may not be on our shelves at this minute does not
mean we can’t get it. So, as we spell out on our terms
pages, we don’t do it anymore. You may, however, call in and we will tell you if the items
are available and if possible attempt to locate what we
don’t have while you are on the phone. |
