Prototype Information —
The ES (Evolution Series) of locomotives are built by GE Transportation Systems and designed to meet the U.S. EPA's Tier 2 locomotive emissions standards that took effect in 2005. These Evolution Series locomotives are equipped with AC traction motors and are powered by a newly designed "GEVO-12" 12 cylinder engine that produces the same power as the 16 cylinder AC4400CW, but with fewer emissions and greater fuel economy. It also carries a redesigned air-to-air dual-fan heat exchanger, which gives it its distinct "oversized" radiator; a common spotting feature for these new locomotives
These new GE locomotives are replacing the AC4400CW locomotives in the production catalog. In the real world they are replacing Dash-7 and some Dash-8 GE units and EMD SD-40, SD-50 and SD-60 series locomotives. |
Model Features —(First Production)
- Kato’s smooth and reliable mechanism
- Magnet Knuckle Coupler
- DCC Friendly
- Prototypically Accurate Details
- Directional Headlight and illuminated number boards

| To promote these new locomotives and the newer, “greener”, engines, GE advertised their new eco-friendlier locomotives with a series of demonstrator units, painted in a distinctive blue and green and emblazoned with the GE Logo on the nose and sides. Many of these locomotives are retained by GE’s locomotive division and see continued use as promotional locomotives. |

| Wig-Wag Note: While these are noted as High Number board which is correct for BNSF no reference is made regarding the rear headlight. Since many of these operate thru New Mexico on the Transcon line as distributed power, the placement of the rear headlight in the low position is very obvious. We have asked for a clarification from Kato on this matter. |

Stock Checks:
Inventory is a fluid commodity. It changes by the
hour (sometimes by the minute). To retain our pricing structure
we maintain stock levels designed to turnover 6 times each
year. We cannot guarantee stock status till we have an order
in hand. All product is subject to prior sale. If we confirm
that we have it, and, while we are waiting for the order
it sells, you would be upset that we did not hold it.
We used to hold items but learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson.
When we held items for customers’ orders, the order
never materialized 80%+ of the time. We lost out on
the orders placed while the item was on hold. Also
we wasted staff time that could have been used to pull actual
orders.
Since we are well known for finding older stock the fact
that it may not be on our shelves at this minute does not
mean we can’t get it. So, as we spell out on our terms
pages, we don’t do it anymore. You may, however, call in and we will tell you if the items
are available and if possible attempt to locate what we
don’t have while you are on the phone. |
