Amtrak F40PH Locomotives
|
The Prototype
|
 |
The
EMD F40PH is synonymous with the Amtrak era of American
passenger trains. Although it has been retired from
Amtrak service, it operated for over 20 years. It continues
to be the motive power for commuter railroads all over
the United States. Over 400 F40PH locomotives have been
manufactured by EMD in various configurations.
To support passenger service, the F40PH is equipped with a secondary electrical generator referred to as the head end generator (or HEP, for Head End Power). The need for constant constant frequency power means that these HEP units are constantly running at 900rpm, resulting in the nickname "Screamers" for the units due to the sound.

First Release (2005)
|
The F40PH went
through some external changes during its production
life and each railroad tended to order a custom package
of headlights, horns, and other equipment that modelers
call "details". Even Amtrak's several orders had multiple
detail variations. The versions we have selected for
this production represent locomotives equipped with
radiator "Q-Fans" - a version never before offered.
Model Features:
• Equipped with Kato automatic magnetic
couplers
• DCC-friendly mechanism
• Shock-absorber construction
• Golden-white LED directional headlight
• Illuminated numberboards
• Seprate beacon ad cab warning lamp detail for modeler
customizing
• All-wheel electrical pickup and traditional KATO motor
with dual brass flywheels |

Stock Checks:
Inventory is a fluid commodity. It changes by the
hour (sometimes by the minute). To retain our pricing structure
we maintain stock levels designed to turnover 6 times each
year. We cannot guarantee stock status till we have an order
in hand. All product is subject to prior sale. If we confirm
that we have it, and, while we are waiting for the order
it sells, you would be upset that we did not hold it.
We used to hold items but learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson.
When we held items for customers’ orders, the order
never materialized 80%+ of the time. We lost out on
the orders placed while the item was on hold. Also
we wasted staff time that could have been used to pull actual
orders.
Since we are well known for finding older stock the fact
that it may not be on our shelves at this minute does not
mean we can’t get it. So, as we spell out on our terms
pages, we don’t do it anymore. You may, however, call in and we will tell you if the items
are available and if possible attempt to locate what we
don’t have while you are on the phone. |
