Evergreen Marine Corporation is one of the largest shipping lines in the world. They also own Uniglory which is in the container leasing business, and EVA Air which is a trans-Pacific passenger and air-cargo carrier. Prior to the introduction of Evergreen's billboard lettering style, this was the standard paint scheme for their containers. The prototypes for this run were photographed in '99 in Long Beach, California.

Trasatlantica Spanish Line P/N DI-5250

That's right, there is only one "n" in "Trasatlantica." This Spanish shipping line has had a colorful, 150 year history. Some ships were sunk by US forces during the Spanish American War. Others had to be renamed after the fall of the Spanish monarchy. Then during the Spanish Civil War, several more ships were sunk while others were seized by Russia and Mexico! Today, Trasatlantica ships ply the oceans in peaceful bliss.

"Matson is an American shipping line that handles much of the sea traffic between the US west coast and America's territories in the Pacifc Rim. The white Matson containers are used as their "home fleet." The brown containers are part of Matson's lease fleet.

An example of shipping ingenuity, this container is equipped with clothing rods. Clothing is hung on the rods at the factory and the container is ultimately delivered to clothing warehouses and stores where fresh, clean, new clothes are able to be put directly on the rack and sold the same day.

Orient Overseas Container Line was established in 1947 to link Hong Kong and the rest of China with the world. Until 1969, they were known as Orient Overseas Line because the whole "Container" concept didn't catch on until then. These special containers are equipped with hanger rails for carrying new clothes...thus the name "Garmentainer." The prototypes were both photographed in Long Beach, California.

Australia Japan Container Line is a modest sized shipping line serving the Pacific Rim. This pair of containers (which were photographed being loaded on a train in Long Beach, California) carry Great Britain country codes. Note the attractive logo incorporates the Japanese rising sun and a boomerang. The container seen in the photo above is sitting on a deLuxe 40' container chassis available separately.

"K"Line P/N DI-4220

"K" Line is the largest of the Japanese shipping lines. The K stands for Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha. Their bright red containers are so common around the world that it's difficult to believe that nearly their entire fleet was sunk during WWII and had to be rebuilt from scratch after the war. The blue and white "T.I.R." logo refers to a customs expediting system and is commonly found on the containers of Japanese shipping lines. These international standard reefer containers have their cooling units flush mounted in the nose. The units can be easily unbolted and removed for easy maintenance or replacement -- even when the containers are loaded. These units must be powered however with a portable "gen-set" that can be mounted to the front of the container or hung under the chassis while on the highway, or plugged into the ship's power supply while on the water. These containers come in 2 packs with 2 different road numbers.

Lauritzen Reefers P/N DI-4260

Lauritzen Reefers is a Denmark based shipping line that specializes in cold cargoes. Their red-hulled ships with their own deck mounted cranes are a common sight in ports around the world. Lauritzen containers bring meat, dairy, and seasonal fruits into North America and carry citrus, apples and pears out to the rest of the world. One of the two containers in the pack is leased from triton and carries the TRIU reporting marks.

Established in 1962, Buenos Aires based Maruba SCA connects South America with North America (on both coasts) as well as Europe and Asia. They have an eclectic collection of container paint schemes with reefers appearing in both white and silver, and 20 and 40 footers in white or blue. What's more, the details in the logo seem to change between batches of containers as does the exact shape of the letters in the "Maruba" billboard lettering. The version we have made is the white reefer with the non-serifed "M" in the logo. These containers come in 2 packs with 2 different road numbers.

The biggest of the shipping industry mega-mergers has been Maersk Sealand. Only Sealand's international business was part of the deal. CSX Corp. retained ownership of Sealand's domestic business and operated it under the name "CSX Lines" (including oddly enough, the old Sealand logo!) This business has now also been sold to The Carlyle Group and is operating under the name "Horizon Lines."

Formerly known as Fairbreeze (FBZ,) Florens is the largest container leasing firm in China. Container lessors like Florens, Tiphook, Waterfront, Genstar and many other lessors provide containers to shipping lines who wish to introduce service in new territories without risking a large investment. Sometimes large volume customers will lease containers to guarantee their supply of boxes. These white containers have blue, yellow and black lettering.
