"If we (Con-Cor) receive(s) enough advance reservations for an "N" version of our Galloping Goose by March 1st 2006, the boss (Mr. Conway) says he will commit to spending the $100,000++ for the "N" Galloping Goose Project.

We are still working on the design specifications for the "N" Galloping Goose, and we have severe space limitations to work with. We have worked out a design with a small built in Printed Circuit board that will allow the N Goose to be operated either in analog mode (i.e. traditional 12v DC control), or have some simple on board DCC controls built in so it can also be run in DCC mode.

Prototypye Info: Railbuses had their origins in the 1920's and 1930's when mail and passengers had to be delivered to remote branch line areas. On "slow" business days or in the off-season when business was light they took the place of an expensive steam locomotive and crew.

Many railroads had Railbuses in one version or another. They were used on both the branch lines of the major railroads and on the local smaller railroads and narrow gauge lines.

When Con-Cor decided to do research for a model of a Railbus, we found that some of the most famous of all Railbuses, the Rio Grande Southern's "Galloping Geese" were still around and some are still running in tourist service.

Our model of the Galloping Goose is a faithful representation of the original freight and passenger version of Goose #5, which first hit the rails in 1933. Number 5 was virtually identical to Geese #3 and #4 which were built a bit earlier. Goose #5 presently lives in Dolores, Colorado, and is in full operating condition. Other Geese can be found in Telluride, Colorado, at Knott's Berry Farm and at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden Colorado. Other Railbuses can be found in train museums around the U.S.A. such as the one in St. Louis.

As of early Sept. 2006 all of the tooling for the N Goose is finished. It turned out to be more complicated than we expected due to the small size of the model.

Due to the small size of this model, the circuit board will not include a DCC socket set, as there is no room for the plug. We have been working on a dual mode board with a built in Decoder, but that aspect has taken much longer than expected,as this is our first model with a built in Decoder and we are told some of the electronic components required are 5-6 month delivery just for the parts, and assembly will take another 6-8 weeks after that.

Therefore the first run of the N Goose will be set up in Analog (12 v DC mode) only. We expect the lst run to be available in late Dec.2006 or Jan. 2007.
