Athearn N Scale is pleased to announce, for the first time,
factory weathered N Scale box cars. Under the direction
of some of the finest painters in the industry, these cars
will be weathered to accurately replicate typical railroad
use.
Each car will be slightly different, because of the hand-applied
nature of weathering.
Available in limited quantities (based on existing stock
of these road names and body types), these unique cars are
sure to be a big hit with modelers. All of these cars have
the incredible detail that is typical of Athearn N Scale.

The Milwaukee Road, officially the Chicago,
Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (CMSP&P RR)
(AAR reporting marks MILW), was a Class I railroad that
operated in the midwest and northwest of the United States
from 1847 until its acquisition by the Soo Line railway
on January 1, 1986. The company went through several official
names and faced bankruptcy several times in that period.
While the railroad does not exist as a separate entity
anymore, it is still commemorated in buildings like the
historic Milwaukee Road Depot in Minneapolis, Minnesota
and in railroad hardware still maintained by railfans,
such as the Milwaukee Road 261 steam locomotive. |

The Minneapolis, Northfield and Southern
Railway (MN&S) (AAR reporting marks MNS) was an 87
mile (140 km) long American short line railroad connecting
Minneapolis and Northfield, Minnesota. It was incorporated
in 1918 to take over the trackage of the former Minneapolis,
St. Paul, Rochester and Dubuque Electric Traction Company,
also known as the "Dan Patch Lines". On 2 June
1982 it was acquired by the Soo Line.
Their mainline ran in what is now the west metro of
the Twin Cities. It went from MNS Junction in Crystal,
through New Hope, Golden Valley, St Louis Park, Bloomington,
Savage, Lakeville and down to Northfield. They had shops
at Glenwood on a spur line that went from the present
area of Hwy 100 and Hwy 55 to the edge of downtown Minneapolis.
There was also a line from Auto Club Junction in Bloomington
through Richfield and into south Minneapolis. Besides
its freight service, the company ran a passenger service
in its early years from Minneapolis to Antlers Park,
a picnic destination they developed. Antlers Park is
now part of the Lakeville city park system.
Today much of the same track, and even some of the
same locomotives and cabooses, are in service as a part
of Progressive Rail.

The Raritan River Rail Road (RRRR) was
a shortline railroad based in South Amboy, New Jersey,
USA which ran as far as New Brunswick, New Jersey, approximately
twelve miles to the west. It served both passengers and
freight in its heyday. The railroad was founded in 1888
and operated profitably throughout much of its existence.
The RRRR was absorbed into Conrail in 1980 and was operated
as a branch line of the extensive Conrail system.
The line is still operated in the 21st century by Conrail
under the CSX/NS Shared Assets arrangement, and has
about six customers. The line now terminates at U.S.
Route 1 in East Brunswick, New Jersey, near New Brunswick.
Many of its spurs have been abandoned.

The Florida East Coast Railway (AAR
reporting marks FEC) is a Class II railroad operating
in the U.S. state of Florida; in the past, it has been
a Class I railroad. The FEC is renowned as the railroad
that built the first railroad bridges to Key West that
have since been rebuilt into road bridges for vehicle
traffic, now known as the Overseas Highway. It was originally
known as the Florida Coast and Gulf Railway and then the
Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Indian River Railway;

The New Orleans Public Belt Railroad
(AAR reporting marks NOPB) is a non-profit terminal switching
railroad, owned by the City of New Orleans. It connects
with six Class I railroads serving the city, and provides
switching and haulage service.
The impetus for the NOPB came during the turn of the
century era when multiple railroads terminating locally
created both congestion at the Port of New Orleans and
safety problems on city streets. The railroad began
operation in 1908 with the intention of giving the major
railroads "uniform and impartial" access to
the port.
The railroad is managed by the Public Belt Railroad
Commission, which also owns and maintains the Huey P.
Long Bridge, the longest railroad bridge in the world.
NOPB covers over 160 kilometers (100 mi) of track with
eight locomotives, over 250 boxcars and 65 gondola cars.
No funding is received from the city; operating and
capital expenses are covered by operating revenues.
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 caused an estimated
$450 million in damage to NOPB equipment and track.
At least 70 percent of the railroad's lines and interchanges
were back in operation by September 2005, and 90 percent
by March 2006.

Bay Colony Railroad Corporation is a
short line freight railroad principally serving southeastern
Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Millis - Milford
- Needham Corridor. In addition to moving freight for
its customers, Bay Colony also performs AAR railcar repair
work, bids out track construction projects and provides
facilities for passenger service on Cape Cod.
The Bay Colony railroad was chartered on March 31,
1977, with the intent of taking over freight service
on former New Haven lines from Conrail, which was planning
to abandon service. Bay Colony took over all freight
operations on the lines on June 12, 1982. It currently
operates a fleet of approximately 7 secondhand locomotives.

The Hutchinson and Northern Railway
(AAR reporting marks HN) is a railroad operating in the
U.S. state of Kansas which started operations in 1923
as an electric line serving the Carey Salt mine at Hutchinson,
KS. Currently, HN operates 5.14 miles of trackage all
located within the city of Hutchinson. Connections are
made with the Union Pacific Railroad, BNSF, and the Kansas
and Oklahoma Railroad. HN was owned by Processed Minerals
INC., a subsidiary of Canadian Pacific. |

Stock Checks:
Inventory is a fluid commodity. It changes by the
hour (sometimes by the minute). To retain our pricing structure
we maintain stock levels designed to turnover 6 times each
year. We cannot guarantee stock status till we have an order
in hand. All product is subject to prior sale. If we confirm
that we have it, and, while we are waiting for the order
it sells, you would be upset that we did not hold it.
We used to hold items but learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson.
When we held items for customers’ orders, the order
never materialized 80%+ of the time. We lost out on
the orders placed while the item was on hold. Also
we wasted staff time that could have been used to pull actual
orders.
Since we are well known for finding older stock the fact
that it may not be on our shelves at this minute does not
mean we can’t get it. So, as we spell out on our terms
pages, we don’t do it anymore. You may, however, call in and we will tell you if the items
are available and if possible attempt to locate what we
don’t have while you are on the phone. |
