Elevator 3.5 x 3 x 6" Country Grain Elevators
Series - Laser Cut Wood Kit The Alton Elevator kit features
100% laser-cut components with our standard tab & slot
wall and roof construction and Peel & Stick trim, windows

with simulated metal roofing on the elevator roof and diamond
shaped asbestos type shingles on the office addition’s
roof.
Like the other grain elevators in our Country Grain Elevator
Series, this kit is based on an actual elevator, which happens
to be located in a town called Alton in north central Kansas.
At the time this kit was designed, the Alton Elevator was
still standing. This structure was built with wood siding
originally, but in later years was covered in corrugated metal.
Our kit represents the prototype’s as-built appearance
and this general design could be found in other places throughout
the country too. However, this particular elevator is a bit
unique in appearance due to the small office building added
to the side of the structure. We have included this addition
in our kit as well, but have left it separate from the main
structure. This offers the modeler the option of placing it
on either side of the elevator according to what best fits
on their layout.

Mill
The inspiration for this kit came from plans in the January
1982 issue of Railroad Model Craftsman, the "Hinkle Milling
Co.", in Thomasville, NC. The original structure was built in
1883, and since it was continually added to over the years,
it was eventually a sprawling industrial site of considerable
appeal. Unfortunately for history buffs, we learned shortly
after the 2001 release of our HO scale version (Dabler Mill
& Supply Company) that the entire site had been razed, bulldozed
away into nothingness.
